Asia-Europe cooperation is more important than ever

The second Asia-Europe Political Forum (AEPF) concluded in London today by calling for cooperation between the two continents to tackle global problems such as climate change, disaster relief, major diseases and combating the pollution of our oceans. The forum, hosted by a senior Conservative MEP, brought together political party representatives from 22 countries across Asia and Europe.

Geoffrey Van Orden MEP, Co-Chairman of AEPF, said: “We live in at of time significant threats and rare opportunities that demand international cooperation. Now more than ever, European and Asian countries must find ways to deliver a safer, cleaner and more prosperous world.

“Today’s forum continued a dialogue that started last year in Seoul between political parties from across Asia and Europe.”

Lord Bates, UK Minister for International Development, delivered a powerful message on behalf of the British government.

The conference was also strongly inspired by the presentation from the Oceanic Rower, Roz Savage, concerning the pollution of our seas and marine life.

There was a strong pledge to work together to overcome these problems.
