Conservative MEPs today gave their full support to protestors who travelled to Brussels to demonstrate against Spanish harassment of Gibraltar citizens.

Ashley Fox, Julie Girling and Giles Chichester, who represent the South West and Gibraltar in the European Parliament, backed the delegation of 50 Gibraltarians wholeheartedly as they took their message direct to the heart of the EU.

Their statement said: "These citizens are making their voices heard here in Brussels and they are speaking for the whole population of the Rock.

"The people of Gibraltar are sick and tired of the Spanish authorities disrupting their lives by slowing border crossings to a standstill and delaying traffic for hours. They are also fed up of the EU doing absolutely nothing to make Spain play by the rules on free movement of people and goods.

"They know that the state of affairs at the La Linea border crossing is blatant victimisation and a disgrace the EU. We congratulate these Gibraltarians for coming here to make sure the Eurocrats get that message too."
