The European Conservatives and Reformists Group in theEuropean Parliament warmly welcome the conclusion of the EU-Canada negotiationsfor a Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). A deal is expectedtoday. This comes after four years of hard work on this agreement following thelaunch of negotiations in May 2009.

We appreciate the hard work and effort of thenegotiators, especially Mauro Petriccione, the EU Chief Negotiator, and hisCanadian opposite number Steve Verheul for achieving such an ambitious andcomprehensive deal.

Robert Sturdy, Vice Chairman of the International TradeCommittee, said: "I am pleased these negotiations have finally come to aconclusion. I look forward to receiving the text of the agreement soon, so theEuropean Parliament can analyse the text and express our views promptly."

"When you realise that the value of bilateral tradein goods between the EU and Canada was €61.8 billion in 2012, you see the hugepotential which exists for this agreement to boost economies on both sides ofthe Atlantic. Access to Canadian public procurement is potentially a huge boostthe UK and the rest of Europe.

"As long ago as 2008 a report put overall potentialincome gains at €11.6 billion for the EU and €8.2 billion for Canada."
