The Conservative delegation of the ECR Group in the European Parliament is seeking an experienced Media Officer to join the delegation's press office.

The Media Officer will report the Head of Media for the UK delegation of the ECR Group in carrying out a variety of tasks which would include:
• promoting the work of the delegation through social media;
• developing the delegation's profile in broadcast media;
• identifying media opportunities and delivering the delegation's communications strategy;
• preparing press releases, letters to the editor and articles for MEPs;
• briefing members of the press both in the UK and Brussels on the priorities and activities of the delegation;
• preparing material to assist MEPs with national and local campaigns;
• maintaining databases and other research materials; reacting swiftly to opportunities and events;
• offering campaign and media advice to Members;
• liaising with CCHQ Press Officers;
• working with other members and staff within the ECR Group.

The post requires flexibility and adaptability. Working hours are highly irregular and include frequent travel, in particular several days per month in Strasbourg during plenary sessions, varying workloads and the capacity for teamwork in an international environment.
The delegation is seeking a high-flying individual who can demonstrate a successful track record in communications, particularly in using social media to advance campaign objectives.
The successful candidate will:
• have experience in a media environment, such as a press officer or a journalist;
• demonstrate a good understanding of the role of social media and websites to develop political campaigns, increase awareness and build support. Some knowledge of web design would be an advantage.
He/she will also have strong political judgment, an attention to detail, an innate news sense, a strong understanding of the news agenda in Westminster, Brussels and the devolved assemblies and an interest in the European Union and the European Parliament.
They should be a supporter of the ECR and, in the British context, of the Conservative Party. They will be a fluent English speaker and knowledge of a second official language of the EU is highly desirable. Candidates must also be a citizen of a member state of the European Union.

Location: Brussels, Belgium
Salary: Depending on length of relevant work experience (in line with European Parliament rules)

Interview/Start Dates:
Interviews will take place in London on 19 February. We anticipate a start date during the course of April.
