Mobarik helps launch new roadmap for a Brexit deal

Conservative MEP Baroness Nosheena Mobarik today hosted a high-profile event in Brussels which launched a new report designed to promote a Brexit-deal breakthrough.

Lady Mobarik, Conservative trade spokesman in the European Parliament, drew together a range of senior figures from the EU Institutions as well as experts from the Prosperity UK think tank, which produced the study titled Getting a Better Brexit Deal.

The Conservative MEP for Scotland said: “I believe there is no lack of will to strike a Brexit deal - what has been lacking in negotiations are the real-world, practical ideas to make a different deal workable. We should remain open to all creative practical and technically robust options to secure agreement between the UK and the EU27.”

The report brings together the work of Prosperity UK's Alternative Arrangements Commission, led by MPs Greg Hands and Suella Braverman, after extensive engagement with stakeholders across the UK, Ireland and Europe.

It offers alternative arrangements for a new Withdrawal Agreement which can be up and running within 2-3 years, and proposes changes to the Political Declaration to allow for a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement.

The proposals build on the success of the Brady amendment, which passed in the House of Commons with a majority of 16 in January. It supported a Withdrawal Agreement, as long as the Backstop was replaced with Alternative Arrangements.
