We are seeking to recruit a policy adviser to the Conservative delegation of the ECR Group in the European Parliament.

The Policy Adviser will work for the ECR Group in supporting ECR members on one or two European parliamentary committees. Tasks will include as required:
• the preparation, organisation and follow-up of meetings;
• the drafting of briefings and analysis of legislative and other policy proposals;
• offering political advice and drafting parliamentary positions.
The post of Policy Adviser in the Secretariat of the ECR Group in the EP requires great flexibility and adaptability: irregular working hours (including travel - in particular several days per month in Strasbourg for plenary sessions), varying workloads, and the capacity for teamwork in an international environment.
Criteria:
The successful candidate will:
• have a degree and several years' experience as a policy adviser in a political/government/ parliamentary/ public affairs role;
• have excellent communication and writing skills;
• have a very good understanding of the European Union and specifically legislative processes and key policy areas;
• a good level of knowledge about the workings of the European Union;
• a good understanding of the work of the European Parliament: its role in the legislative process, its responsibilities and powers, its organisation and internal procedures (particularly of the workings of its committee structure);
• be a fluent English speaker (knowledge of a second official language of the EU is desirable);
• be a citizen of a member state of the European Union.

Location: Brussels, Belgium
Salary: A competitive salary is on offer based on the length of experience of the successful applicant in line with European Parliament rules.
Closing Date: 7 February 2016
Interview/Start Dates:
First interviews will take place in February and may include several skills-based written exercises. A second interview would take place later in February or in early March in Brussels.
The anticipated start date would be during the course of April.
